Not all thermal ribbons are equal

There's a lot more to the thermal ribbon for your SmartDate or CimJet than meets the eye. Not all thermal ribbons are created equal and the wrong ribbon can be more expensive, less reliable and can even shorten the life of your print head.

Of the service calls Unimark handles about print quality issues, many are caused by inferior thermal ribbons.

Common problems are:
§ Inconsistent quality prints
§ Print rubbing off
§ Clogged roller and/or shuttle, that leads to excessive wear
§ Shortened print head life

These symptoms can be avoided by using genuine Markem thermal ribbons, which are manufactured with a special release coat to protect your print head and other components of the printer. Inferior ribbons don't have this!

If you're not getting the quality you expected from your thermal printer, first check which thermal ribbon you use and then investigate your printer settings.
