Thermal printhead maintenance

Simple daily checks and cleaning will maximise the life of your thermal print head and maintain the high print quality of your SmartDate.

Follow these simple steps:

1) Turn the power off. This extremely important step will prevent cracking of the print head.
2) Remove the cassette.
3) Visually check the print head.
4) Clean the print line by gently wiping across it with Markem sachet swabs or with a bottle of solution and bud-like swabs. Be careful not to apply pressure or touch the rest of the print head. Print head cleaning kits can be ordered from Unimark. Don't be tempted to use abrasive materials or tools like screwdrivers under any circumstances as this could cause serious damage to the valuable print head.
5) Visually check the timing belts and rollers and clean if necessary.
6) Finally, check the timing belt tension by firmly pushing on the belt. There should be around 3mm of movement.

This quick and easy routine should be carried out every day or at least at every ribbon change. It will keep your SmartDate in top condition, for longer life and terrific print quality.
